chillax adorkable grrl. posting such judgements and negative opinions. please understand you use some strong and insulting words. are you really so surprised that your diatribe caused such a reaction?
Well I had a long theoretical comment prepared to answer your question, Kat – but, my blog ate it – so I’m going to take that as a sign that it didn’t need to be posted.
My harsh comments are my opinions – I’ve stated that several times – I don’t begrudge anyone having fun any way they choose, just don’t expect me to applaud it as awesome when it’s… well… pretty lame.
And, honestly the reaction that RA gave amused me to no end. That might be mean and trollish of me (something I don’t normally participate in) but, when you gently poke at someone and they go “AHHHH I’VE BEEN STABBED, I’M DYING” it’s hard not to continue to wind that person up to watch them over react. It’s that schadenfreude thing…. I try to be my higher self 99% of the time and not poke when given opportunity (mostly b/c I’ve been on the receiving end of it and I know it kinda sucks for the over-reacter) however I am far from perfect… And, to be frank, given some of the stuff I’ve heard about RA as a person he kind of deserved a little blog comment/email flame torture.
*shrug*
Just pretendy funtime games. And, if you look up above you’ll see I did post a note to the individual in this whole situation who I actually respect, Scott Beale.
But then again… if you’re gonna put it out there you have to be prepared for some people to criticize it and/or not like it. Comes with the territory and Scott Beale HAS to know that. As for Rick Abruzzo – windup toy that I was unable to restrain my evil self from fucking with.
Cheers, thanks for reading!
AG
so i have a little to weigh in on this situation.
a) It is iditarod. Its been around for 12 or so years…and it doesnt matter who started it or where it came from…ive done it twice, and until you do it yourself, you shouldn’t judge. (if you have, then judge away)
b) in the 3 santacons Ive done since living here, the Santarchy/Santacon title has been used interchangeably.
c) while I havent been to burning man, but had and sold my tickets to it twice due to financial reasons and not will…many of my good friends, some of them approaching 40 still go, and will continue going. Many of them have amazing jobs…after all burning man is expensive. i still desire to go..i have my head on straight…im not living in the 90’s…and “is the signal of someone who doesn’t have anything else going for them in their lives.” I beg to differ Kate. I actually have quite a bit going on.
d) i believe he said he was involved with or worked with pillow fight… not owned it.
Take this for what its worth. I dont think you have done enough research or enough of the awesomeness that is posted on Laughing Squid to realize that it is what makes SF great. How often do you get to dress like a bride and wander around the city with 50 other brides, most of them being men chanting “Beware the Brides of March”
I dont know this guy…but i think you are being argumentative for the sake of being argumentative…and maybe i am too…but i have personal experience to back it up. (you may too…i dont know)
Well I haven’t done the Brides of March thing; but I have done Santa Con/the Pillow Fight/Day of the Dead parade/B2B, twice – once while you were there/a Zombie Flash Mob/Talk Like a Pirate Day and No Pants Day. I’ve played kick-ball with my friends in the park and drunk touch football, I’ve done the whole Cinco De Mayo shit and Power to the Peaceful and Love Parade and Folsom Street Fair (twice, though I only stayed for about a half hour this last time b/c I wanted to go home and chill out.) I think I’ve lived here enough and participated in enough tomfoolery to know that I – personally – find it enjoyable once, then think it’s pretty tired. That is my opinion. I don’t judge those who continue to participate in these activities, if you’re having fun, go for it. I just don’t want my community to be defined by that alone when there is so much other awesome stuff going on in San Francisco that doesn’t make people across the world think we’re all drugged up weirdos…. I also know I’m not the only one who feels like this, it’s actually been a common topic amongst a group of friends since one of us witnessed some really tripped out and disrespectful behavior at a Day of the Dead alter by one of the raver-holder-on-ers of which I speak with hearty disdain.
And, it’s all simply my opinion – so I’m not really sure why it matters at all to anyone.
HOWEVER: You are very correct – I was being argumentative for the sake of being argumentative to Rick Abruzzo, for personal reasons – which, not always being the nicest person in the world (as you’re aware, I’m sure) amused me. It also amused some other people who I’m close to who personally do not think very kindly or highly of Rick Abruzzo. The thing I was told was that he was a guy who could dish it out; but, would flip the fuck out if it was handed back to him. Which is exactly what happened. It’s kind of like when Mick would say shit stirring things in Talk threads on Yelp just to watch people over react.
It’s not my higher self, fer sure, but it did spend most of the morning amusing me and many of my friends.
All other commenters I’ve done my best to be 100% respectful and take what they have to say to me, because I did put it out there… that’s the first rule, right? If you can’t take it GTFO the Internet. *shrug* Sometimes I can’t believe it took me like ten years to learn that… I thank Yelp and Encyclopedia Dramatica…
As you are my friend – if you are offended by my opinions, I am truly sorry you feel that way… Yah have to know I have nothing but love and respect for you, as we’ve known each other for a few years now… But, opinions are like assholes – we all got one and sometimes shit comes out of it. Today was my day to poop out a controversial/unpopular opinion. Tomorrow it will be someone else… in the end it’s not and should not be anything more than what it is: a blogger running her mouth off on her own blog and then taking shit as gracefully and with as much good humor as possible when people flip the fuck out taking the Internet too seriously.
