Probably everyone who has read this blog today knows that Violet Blue wrote about what happened to my geek erotica story for her column in the Chronicle this week.
I cannot stress enough how much Violet, Amber Rhea, Brittany Novotny and Tyler Hollingsworth helped me last week with this situation.
To answer a question which has been asked frequently of me today: Of course I knew about RSS Feed ganks and splogging before now – I am a geek girl and I’ve been online since before it was called the “Internet” – come on! It is just I had never had my content ganked before – probably because I have only recently begun feeling confident enough about my erotica to publish it at all – and, when these two factoids combined and resulted in my story being swiped I had no idea what to do to remedy the situation. Thankfully, I am surrounded (both online and in person) by smaht peeps who DID know what to tell me to do; and, I’ve since taken some steps to protect myself from situations like this in the future. I’m not a naive blogger – I of course recognize that every time I publish online that I take a risk of this type of thing – let me emphasize: I just had not had it happen to me previously.
And, I’d like to stress again: As an aspiring writer I do not mind when people link my work or republish it – provided – that I am asked and that it is properly credited/titled. I don’t even mind when it’s linked (only linked) w/out my permission – provided it’s not grossly miscategorized.
Not to mention – since the cat’s out of the bag that I like to write sexy geek stories – I’m prolly gonna start just publishing this type of work on a locked platform under my own name. More on that at a later point.
And for HitmanSF who, in response to VB’s column said: “I’m tired of this gothic heavy make up hos showing the world how sexually powerful they are when deep inside they have huge drug and parental issues but make themselves look great in their twisted perception of sexuality.”
Uhhhh… I’m 34, neither goth or punk (though I do have some bangs and geeky glasses,) I get along with my parents swimmingly (in fact mah Mommaship likes my erotica – what she’s read of it) and I don’t have a warped perception of sex in the slightest… Just a FYI… *sweet grin*
I need to remember not to read comments on stuff when I’m tired and slightly grumpy due to lack of caffeine.
