I am now an INTERNATIONAL journalist: Femina Potens – my new column on DollyMix

So. I have been sitting on news for two week now that I have been dying to share with the world. Now, because it is 14 September, I can let everyone know what has been making me jump up and down in my seat like an excited five year-old all of this time:

I’m a DollyMixer

I am now an international journalist. You read that correctly: INTERNATIONAL, BEEOTCHES! A couple of weeks ago a friend encouraged me to send an email to Cate Sevilla, the lovely editor at DollyMix – one of my favorite grrl blogs evah – to propose that I write a weekly column for DM.

I want to be a journalist, people – that is my dream – and, my friend had the very valid point that writers WRITE whenever they get the chance. This person (my BFF) told me that I should just go for it and start submitting my work everywhere. He also told me that since DM was calling for new writers to submit, that I’d be a fool not to inquire.

So, I did. Before I left Ohio. And, when I got off the plane in Sucka Free I found that I had a reply from Cate (in which she said that she thinks Adorkable Grrl is great -!!!!!) inviting me to write for DollyMix.

After emailing back and forth about the particulars, it was concluded that I would write a weekly column titled Femina Potens (latin for “strong woman) in which I explore and tell the stories of exceptionally strong, everyday women through interviews and op-ed pieces. My very first column posted about 45 minutes ago.

I have some really interesting (and, big) interviews scheduled for the coming weeks – I hope you all read the column – I’m super proud of it. It’s the first piece of writing that I’ve done publicly (not counting this blog) that I feel this way about.
