My Dad, putting the ASS in “classy”
June 16, 2008 · No Comments
The Sparkmeister was in town this past weekend to see myself, the brother & the sissy-in-law… it was a unexpected trip out to SF & of course it was a pleasure to see him.
He was in rare form - his crass, lovable self - at one point he made me laugh so hard that wine came out my nose… I captured this fine photo at Monahan’s on Friday night before dinner.
Anyone who wonders where my low brow humor sensibilities started only need hang out with Spark for a night…
My Mommaship says of this picture:
“Perhaps the University should use this the next time they need a press photo of your father, the Dean.”
*falls on floor laughing ass off*
Oh Spark!

The Bullet Points of Life:
June 10, 2008 · No Comments
- Tuesday, 6/24 I will be reading a story from A Girl A-Whirl in the World which started out as a Yelp Review at the Yelp Open Mic at Socha Cafe. Jessica Thomas asked me to pick something to read at this event & as my antics as a “cheesburger hurler” have caused numerous people to giggle - so much so that I adapted it for the book - I figure that was a good choice. I hope some people can come down to support - as I hate reading my stuff in public.
- I’m honestly shocked that I’m still getting hateful comments on this blog from ze pinheads of the innerwebs. Shocked… I mean, don’t you guys have anything better to do?
- Here’s an interesting article in the Guardian about the backlash that the Girl With a One Track Mind experienced after having her anonymity destroyed when a paper decided to out her identity following the publication of her book. It defs gave me pause about accepting any syndication on my super-secret writing.
- I’m headed to a party being thrown by Ars Technica & Gizmodo tonight surrounding the Apple WWDC going on in SF this week. Flackette has been kind enough to ask me to be her date for the evening… I hope there’s schwag. I hope I don’t do anything that ends up on Valleywag… eep… or, then again maybe I do.
- Ze bonne-Bon (aka, my roommate) & I are now addicted to The Flight of the Conchords. I don’t know how the F it took me so long to fall in love with this show; but, we watched about eighty gagillion episodes (Season 1) of it over the weekend. I want guys who spontaneously break into sarcastic song in my life… where are they????
- My favorite quote about the 3G iPhone (unveiled yesterday): “But will the 3G iPhone fold my laundry? Will the 3G iPhone keep a litter box spring fresh or walk a dog? Will the 3G iPhone hold your hair back after all the WWDC partying you will be doing tonight? I don’t think so.” (Via Valleywag)
- Okay - the Onion still rocks: The World of the World of Warcraft (via Laughing Squid) - the guy in this video looks like my ex-boyfriend, Tyler. LOL…
- That’s about it for today - back to the grindstone.

Well it would seem as if the pinheads of ze innerwebs have found my blog again. Today I’ve been slammed with 25 spam comments calling me a “sexist bitch” in relation to the rather simple post where I said I hate men.
I don’t hate all men, actually — I like/love quite a few [insert individual, one at a time joke here]. Of course my personal post - which those people who know me & know what has been going on in my life understood the context of - was just the opening they needed to attack my blog.
Oh Anonymous, you’re such a sad, sad character. The only way you can feel validated about how big & strong & tough you are is to sling your hatred all over the innerwebs. Poor you.
I want to tell you three things, should you be reading this:
1. My blog isn’t public domain, neither is anything published (by self or other) on the Internet. If you’d read up on your media law like I did, you’d know that to be true. I didn’t even need my “lawyer friend” to tell me that, it’s right there in black & white in the AP Media Law Briefing.
Not that this fact was relevant to the post you chose to spam… just thought I’d help educate you, since you’re obviously too busy taking out your anger at never having gotten laid on poor hapless female bloggers like myself.
2. You know what? I go on dates & get laid ALL THE TIME… I’m pretty sure you only have a relationship with downloaded porn & your right hand.
…
…
3. WordPress has this nifty little tool on their advanced blogging platform which allows for IP addresses of repeated spammers to be reported. Not only that; but, it allows you to bulk moderate comments & send them all to the nether regions of these here innerwebs w/out the admin of the publication even having to look at it… So go to town, your dumbass-ill informed-punyNetnerdwholivesinhisMommysbasementandcantgetadate comments will never be seen by me OR by anyone who reads this blog.
Y’all are pretty L-to the-A-to the-M-to the-E. And, your shit is tired. Move on, son… move on.

We’ve been slammed at work - I’ve been pushing out more copy daily than I ever had. Leaves little time for blogging - I feel tres lame b/c I feel like everytime I post here it’s some version of that last statement or a repost of something not mine.
Pfff.
Bullet points from my life:
- I’m headed to NYC for five days tomorrow - I plan on spending time with my friends Indie Grasch & Colette… I also anticipate eating a lot & drinking a lot. Fun, huh?
- I’m on the final draft of A Girl A-Whirl in the World now, number five… then we start the publicity process. I’m nervous.
- Work is insane - who’s a dummy who decided to take vacation during a short week & right before a big product push? Oh yeah, me.
- I am in negotiations to syndicate my super-secret blog. (Guess what that content is about - THAT’S RIGHT!) If it goes through I’ll have to publish it under a pen name. Fun stuff.
- That’s about it…

Headed to NYC:
May 19, 2008 · No Comments
I’m headed to NYC on a combo of work & pleasure (mostly the pleasure of seeing my good friend Indie Grasch) from 5/30 to 6/4. Despite my general loathing for Manhattan I’m pretty stoked to go - I think I’ll get a chance to catch up with some family & old skool East Coast friends… Not to mention seeing some fracking awesome Improv by my friends at the UCB… though, sadly my Mom’s Illicit Love Slave (better known as Eli Newell,) will not be there to amuse me.
It’s because they’re running off together just a day before I arrive.
Boo.
Anyhow - that’s the newest from me - standby for some exciting news surrounding this trip. Info which I cannot discuss right now… but, it’s BIG STUFF!

Yay, Camp Asshat! (A substantial blog post about my Big Sur trip)
May 12, 2008 · No Comments
I’ve been a bad, bad blogger. I have been neglecting this blog recently. It has not been in vein, though; I have been working on the third and final draft of my book - the one which will be published this coming September. I also have been pushing out between 500-1,000 words per day for the company I write content for.
Suffice it to say that all this work has left me with little bandwidth to blog about the various goings on in my life with much enthusiasm; not to mention veritably eradicating all insight I might have into pop culture & current events.
I have come up for air though; and, this past weekend I took a holiday to go camping at Big Sur with my roommates and friends. It was an awesome experiance, one which I will need to put into words at some point, perhaps another short story titled “My Lost Hippy Weekend.”
I am honestly unable to compare this experiance with anything I’ve done since moving to Northern California five years ago.
We did a bunch of really cool stuff: hiking Julia Pfeiffer beach (where the pic posted was taken,) soaking in the hot springs at the Eselan Institute and bumming around Carmel. I enjoyed ever minute of the adventure (except the Folk NO! concert & the rude bastards wrecking my trip at the fire; ) though I have to say I was really happy to roll back into San Francisco.
I named our group of miscreant Gen Xers (and, one or two Gen Yers - see above rude bastard comment) “Camp Asshat” as we were the least organized group at the campgrounds we stayed on. We had lopsided tents, luggage laying around, hair dryers & straightening irons, empty booze bottles lining our picnic tables…
Yesterday Bon (my roommate) asked me “Kate, how long do you think we could last out here?”
I said, “Until tomorrow.”
City kids hit the country - next time I’m getting a cabin w/a bed - sleeping on rocks only works when one is so exhausted or drunk that they just pass out. (Thankfully that was the case for me. Though, I won’t rely on that for my next nature experiance & damn but I want to go back to explore things more throughly. Perhaps with someone to snuggle with. Who knows?)
All in all it was good fun.
Check out all my Camp Asshat Pictures!

Update on Monty:
May 5, 2008 · No Comments
If you recall, a week or so ago I reported that Monty the Cat had broken his tail & might have to get it cut off.
My former roomie & good friend, Carla, reports that her kitteh’s tail is getting better… so no amputation of tail for the moment!
Yay!
*still sending Monty happy tail vibes*
